Axel Hütte was born in 1951 in Essen, Germany. Included amongst the masters of the School of Dusseldorf, he starts his career in this city, attending the eponymous Academy and the courses of famous photographer Bernd Becher.
Hütte, who initially pursued a career as film-director, focuses his attention on the landscape, natural and urban alike, characterised by a style that’s neutral and objective, or tending to apparent impartiality.
During the years, the interest for the landscape is a pillar of Hütte’s work, expanding and developing both in its style and the choice of subjects. Domestic interiors, industrial buildings, night urban views and snowy heights: landscapes that the photographer deprives of any human presence and represents in large format, a distinctive characteristic of his style.
His most recent solo exhibitions include “Night and Day” at Museum Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf in 2017, “Axel Hütte: Rheingau” at Galerie Nikolaus Ruzicska in Salzburg, "Axel Hütte. Imperial - Majestic - Magical " in Kunsthalle Krems, Austria, in 2018.
The work of the German artist acquired by prestigious collections, both public and privat and has been shown internationally, amongst others at the MAGASIN-Centre National d’art Contemporain in Grenoble, at the Institut Valencià d’Art Modern in Valencia, at Musée d’art moderne de la Ville de Paris, at Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, at Fondazione Bevilacqua la Masa in Venice.
